The Osun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a suspected armed robber, six alleged cult members, and the recovery of stolen motorcycles in separate operations carried out in the state.
The arrests, which followed reported cases of robbery, attempted murder, and cult-related violence, were disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Gotan.
According to the statement, \u201cthe Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Command launched an investigation after two commercial motorcyclists reported separate attacks on 16th and 18th August 2025. Both incidents occurred in Ile-Ife.
\u201cThe first complainant alleged that he was lured by a passenger, identified as Johnson Olagoke, to convey him to a school.
\u201cOn arrival, accomplices of the suspect reportedly struck the victim with a stick until he lost consciousness. His motorcycle, cash of \u20a617,850, a Techno phone, and a handbag were allegedly stolen.\u201d
The second complainant, the statement disclosed reported that, \u201con August 18, 2025, Olagoke engaged his services and deceitfully obtained \u20a65,000 before leading him to the same location. He was allegedly struck on the head from behind, rendering him unconscious, while his motorcycle, phone, and cash totalling \u20a610,650 were taken.
\u201cThe Anti-Kidnapping unit of the Command swiftly swung into action; through intelligence-led operation arrested the suspect and recovered two motorcycles.\u201d
The recovered motorcycles included two Boxer motorcycles with registration numbers KJA 543 QN and BDG 556 QN.
\u201cOlagoke, aged 23, is currently assisting the police with further information to aid in the arrest of other suspects involved in the incidents,\u201d the statement added.
In a separate development, the Command confirmed that its Anti-Cultism Unit, while on patrol in Iree town, Boripe local government area on September 8, received intelligence on a violent clash between suspected cult members.
The clash, involving suspected members of the Buccaneers confraternity and rival groups, reportedly took place within a higher institution in the area, where gunshots were exchanged and two students sustained injuries.
\u201cThe injured students are said to be receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
\u201cThree suspects, identified as Oluwadamilare Temitope, 23, Ayodeji John, 24, and Adepoju Adesoji, 27, were arrested at the scene of the fracas.
\u201cFurther investigations led to the arrest of three additional suspects: Yusuf Abeeb, 24, Fatai Quadri, 24, and Lateef Abiodun, 23, bringing the total number of cult-related suspects to six.
\u201cAll suspects will be charged to court after the completion of investigation,\u201d the statement disclosed.
