The Ondo State Police Command has said its operatives have arrested two suspected armed robbers who have been terrorizing residents of Akure in recent months.<\/p>\n
CSP Funmilayo Odunlami, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, in the state, disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen on Thursday in Akure.<\/p>\n
Odunlami identified the suspects as Amubieya Emmanuel, male, 26 years old, and Ogunmola Akintola, male, 26 years old.<\/p>\n
She said they were apprehended on February 25, 2025, by operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics, SWAT, team in Ondo Town.<\/p>\n
According to the PPRO, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had been actively involved in a series of robbery incidents in Akure since August 2024.<\/p>\n
\u201cTheir modus operandi was targeting ladies. They picked their victims at night (around 10:00 PM) using a Toyota Camry, drove them to remote areas within Akure, and robbed them of their mobile phones.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe victims were compelled to transfer money from their bank accounts at gunpoint, though the gun used was later discovered to be a toy gun.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe following items were recovered from the suspects: a Toyota Camry used in the operations, a knife, an iron rod, and a toy gun,\u201d Odunlami said.<\/p>\n
The PPRO, who stated that the suspects had been on the command\u2019s watchlist, said they confessed to the crime, while investigations were ongoing to apprehend any other accomplice(s).<\/p>\n
