The Imo State Police Command has recently arrested several criminal suspects believed to be involved in various offences, including armed robbery, car snatching, cultism, and unlawful possession of firearms.
The operations leading to the arrests were carried out by operatives from the Quick Intervention Team, QIT, and the Rapid Response Squad, RRS, of the state command.
A press statement from the command\u2019s spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, stated that the arrests were the result of a series of operations conducted over the past few months.
Okoye noted that on November 7, 2025, at about 7 pm, armed hoodlums snatched a Mercedes-Benz GLE 350 with registration number ABC-10CG from Chukwuebuka and his friends at Ikenegbu, near Holy Family Catholic Hospital, Owerri.
\u201cFollowing a distress call, QIT operatives tracked the vehicle towards Okigwe Road and recovered it at about 10:30 pm. One suspect, Adamu Sani, of Kachia LGA, Kaduna State, was arrested and confessed to the crime, naming Abdullahi, Emmanuel, and Emeka as his accomplices.
\u201cSimilarly, on November 8, 2025, at about 3 am, QIT operatives recovered a black Toyota Hilux with registration number NEM-14AG, reportedly stolen from a hotel in Rivers State, which was abandoned at New Owerri by De Angels around 5 am.
\u201cOn the same day, a Toyota Venza, earlier snatched by three armed men at New Owerri by De Compound on November 7, 2025, was recovered abandoned at Yar\u2019Adua Drive by Chosen Church at about 5:30 pm. All vehicles have been identified by their owners, while efforts are ongoing to arrest other fleeing suspects,\u201d Okoye confirmed.
He further revealed that on November 2, at about 8:30 am, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, on stop-and-search duty along Owerri-Aba Road, intercepted two young men on a commercial bus heading to Owerri. During the search, the operatives recovered a cut-to-size, locally fabricated double-barrelled gun with three live cartridges.
The suspects, later identified as Uchechukwu Ahamefule and Miracle Eberechi, both from Ogbu Umuorji, Osisioma, Abia State, confessed to being members of the Vikings Bagar confraternity cult group.
DSP Okoye explained that the suspects admitted to seizing the firearm from a rival cult group in Aba for their own protection. He added that the case is under investigation, with efforts ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate.
\u201cThe Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, assured that the command will sustain its proactive policing approach to rid Imo State of criminal elements.
