{"id":3124,"date":"2025-11-23T10:54:00","date_gmt":"2025-11-23T10:54:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.securityfocus.ng\/?p=3124"},"modified":"2025-11-23T10:54:00","modified_gmt":"2025-11-23T10:54:00","slug":"tiktoker-arrested-after-staging-kidnapping-for-social-media-attention-in-edo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.securityfocus.ng\/index.php\/2025\/11\/23\/tiktoker-arrested-after-staging-kidnapping-for-social-media-attention-in-edo\/","title":{"rendered":"TikToker arrested after staging kidnapping for social media attention in Edo"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Edo state Police command has arrested a 24-year-old TikTok content creator, Osarobo Omoyemen, popularly known online as \u201cMadam Oil Rice\u201d, for allegedly faking her own kidnapping in an attempt to boost her social media following.<br \/><br \/>Omoyemen was arrested after investigations revealed that her viral claim of being abducted along Upper Sakponba Road in Benin City was fabricated. <br \/><br \/>She had alleged in a video that has now been deleted that she was rescued by police operatives, detained at Akpata Police atation, and forced to pay a N10,000 bail fee.<br \/><br \/>In a statement, the Police public Relations Officer, CPS Moses Yamu, said the command immediately launched an investigation after the video began circulating.\u201cFindings revealed that the entire story was completely fabricated and deliberate. The suspect has been identified, arrested, and charged to court on Thursday, 20th November, 2025. Efforts are ongoing to arrest her accomplices to ensure they face the full weight of the law.\u201d<br \/><br \/>The police spokesperson further cautioned the public against spreading false information capable of causing panic or undermining security efforts.\u201cMembers of the public are advised to verify information before sharing and to refrain from acts that may mislead the public or undermine the efforts of security agencies,\u201d he said.<br \/><br \/>During interrogation, Omoyemen reportedly confessed that she staged the incident for the sole purpose of generating online content and increasing her TikTok followers.
