The Kano State Police Command has recovered a stolen Toyota Sienna vehicle and handed it over to its rightful owner, Mr. Ali Alti, barely two days after it was reported stolen in Maiduguri, Borno State.
The development was disclosed in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, and dated January 25, 2026.
According to the statement, the maroon-coloured Toyota Sienna with registration number RBC-801HM, valued at about \u20a620 million, \u201cwas stolen on January 5, 2026, from Maiduguri GRA by a security watchman.\u201d
The statement noted that the recovery followed intelligence-led patrol directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun. It added that \u201cpolice operatives attached to the Hotoro Police Division recovered the vehicle on January 7, 2026, at Hotoro Arewa Quarters in Kano.\u201d
CSP Kiyawa stated that CP Bakori subsequently ordered the release of the vehicle to the owner after all necessary checks.
\u201cThe Commissioner of Police directed that the vehicle be handed over to Mr. Ali Alti after due verification of ownership,\u201d the statement said.
The Command further revealed that \u201cfour suspects have been arrested and are currently under investigation in connection with the theft, which originated in Maiduguri.\u201d
Advising the public, the Commissioner of Police cautioned residents to be vigilant when engaging domestic staff. \u201cMembers of the public are advised to always be cautious of the people they hire for domestic services, particularly security personnel, and to ensure proper background checks are carried out,\u201d the statement quoted CP Bakori as saying.
