The Nigeria Police Force, Sokoto state command said its operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit has arrested five suspected counterfeit currency network known as \u201cSai Malam.\u201d
In a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Ahmad Rufa\u2019i, the Divisional Police Officer of Illela Division has transferred three suspects, Muhd Hamidu of Kwanni, Niger Republic, Umar Hassan and Sadik Isah of Illela Local Government Area to the Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
It said intelligence led to the arrest of two other suspects:, Buhari Abubakar and Kasimu Muhammad, both of Makera Asada quarters in Sokoto Metropolis
According to the statement, the command has successfully recovered counterfeit currency and fetish items believed to be used in the illegal operation by the suspects.
In a separate operation on March 10, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the command responded to a distress call about suspected members of the outlawed \u2018Yan Sakai group in Dakalo village of Dange Shuni Local Government Area.
The group, led by one Sani Nabuzuwa, is suspected of being involved in cases of culpable homicide and cattle rustling.
\u201cOn sighting the police, the suspects opened fire but were subdued by the tactical team and fled into a nearby forest,\u201d he said.
