The Police Command in Ondo State says it has rescued five passengers who were taken during an armed robbery attack that occurred between Ita-Oba and Oboto along Ondo Road on Thursday in the state.
DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the command\u2019s spokesperson, who made this known in a statement on Thursday in Akure, said the incident happened at about 0520 hours.
Jimoh explained that the passengers were in a commercial vehicle en-route Ondo to Akure, when they were intercepted and taken into the bush by the armed robbers where their belongings were obtained.
\u201cFollowing a swift response to the distress call, the command\u2019s operatives alongside Ondo State Security Network, Amotekun Corps, carried out a targeted operation which led to the successfully rescue of the victims from the bush, unharmed.
\u201cMeanwhile, three suspects have been apprehended in connection with the robbery and they identified as Akinyemi Olamilekan \u2018m\u2019; Mutaka Ali \u2018m\u2019 and Atiku Abubakar \u2018m\u2019.
\u201cThe suspects have made useful statements that is aiding investigation and will be charged to court upon conclusion.\u201d he said.
Jimoh, therefore, reassured the public of the command\u2019s continuous commitment to the safety and security of lives and property along highways and major commercial routes.
According to him, the routine monitoring, strategic patrols, and intelligence-led operations within the Area of Responsibility remain ongoing to prevent such criminal activities and ensure rapid response to emergencies.
