The Wife of the Inspector General of Police, Mrs. Mutiat Disu, has declared her resolve to leverage programmes under the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) to improve the welfare, healthcare, and empowerment of police officers\u2019 wives across Nigeria.
According to a statement issued by Senior Special Assistant to the First Lady on Media, Busola Kukoyi, Mrs. Disu made this known after a closed-door meeting with First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, at the State House, Abuja, on Tuesday.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Mrs. Disu, who also serves as the National President of the Police Officers\u2019 Wives Association (POWA), said she would tap into the First Lady\u2019s wealth of experience and the wide-ranging interventions of the RHI to benefit members of the association nationwide.
\u201cThe purpose of visiting her is to tap from her wealth of experiences and to know about programmes she has for the masses, to see how the POWA can benefit from the programmes,\u201d she said.
She added that her interaction with the First Lady had already provided valuable insights into opportunities available through the initiative.
\u201cI have learnt so much from her within this short period that I have spoken with her, and I am sure by the time I start working with her, my people will benefit more from the RHI programmes. We will be looking at the RHI social intervention and healthcare for police families too,\u201d Mrs. Disu stated.
She further affirmed her readiness to collaborate closely with the First Lady to ensure that police officers\u2019 wives, who form the bulk of POWA, are adequately captured in the initiative\u2019s women-focused programmes.
\u201cWhat the people should expect from me is that I am ready to work with Mama on this RHI as it affects our women, since the RHI is basically for women and POWA is dominated by women,\u201d she added.
Earlier, the First Lady had received Mrs. Disu and encouraged her to prioritise the welfare of police officers\u2019 wives, stressing the importance of sustained support structures for families of security personnel.
