The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested 20 foreign nationals in Kano State over concerns about their entry and activities.
In a statement issued on April 7, the Kano State Command of the NSCDC said the suspects were apprehended in the Danbare area of Kumbotso Local Government Area following a security operation.
\u201cThe Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kano State Command, wishes to inform the general public of the successful arrest of 20 foreign nationals in Danbare area of Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State,\u201d the statement read.
According to the commandant, Mohammed Hassan Agalama, the suspects are from Sudan, Chad, and other neighbouring countries.
\u201cThe suspects, comprising individuals from Sudan, Chad, and other neighbouring countries, were apprehended following credible intelligence and a coordinated operation by our operatives,\u201d he said.
The NSCDC added that early findings raised concerns about the group\u2019s presence in the state.
\u201cPreliminary investigations indicate that the individuals could not provide valid travel or identification documents, raising concerns over their mode of entry and activities within the state.\u201d
Security operatives also recovered some items from the suspects during the operation, including 10 android phones.
\u201cThe Corps is currently profiling and investigating the suspects to ascertain their mission and possible links to any unlawful activities. Relevant agencies have been duly notified, and necessary steps are being taken in line with extant laws,\u201d the statement added.
