Operatives of Lagos Police Command have recovered one AK-49 assault rifle, three magazines, 15 rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition from a suspected armed robber in Ajegunle area of Ikorodu, Lagos State.
The spokesperson for Lagos Police Command, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, announced this in a statement on Tuesday.
He said the suspected armed robber was apprehended by detectives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), following a coordinated and intelligence-led raid.
\u201cOn July 15, the detectives acting on intelligence, stormed a criminal hideout in the Ajegunle area of Ikorodu.
\u201cDuring the operation, the team apprehended the suspect in possession of one AK-49 assault rifle, three magazines, 15 rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition, three rounds of 9mm (K2) ammunition, and two rounds of 7.62x51mm ammunition,\u201d he said.
The spokesperson said that investigation revealed that the suspect was deeply engaged in armed robbery and illegal land acquisition operations.
\u201cPreliminary investigations revealed that the suspect had been actively involved in armed robbery and land-grabbing activities across various parts of the state, using the recovered firearm to perpetrate his crimes.
\u201cFurther investigations revealed that the suspect has accomplices, \u201d the image maker said.
According to him, efforts are being intensified to apprehend other members of the criminal syndicate and to charge all involved to court at the conclusion of the investigations.
He said that the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Olohundare Jimoh, commended the officers for their quick action.
