The Ogun state Police command said operatives of the Obantoko Division have arrested two suspected one-chance robbers allegedly terrorising residents of Obantoko and surrounding communities.
Disclosing this on Friday, the command\u2019s spokesman, Oluseyi Babaseyi, added that they also recovered a stolen iPhone 12 Pro and several other mobile phones suspected to have been stolen from victims.
Babaseyi said that the suspects were arrested following a distress call received by the division at about 5:15 p.m. on May 28, 2026, reporting a robbery involving a woman and her two sisters.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victims had boarded a Nissan Micra taxi at Somorin en route to NNPC Kuto. However, upon reaching the OLG Somorin axis, the occupants of the vehicle allegedly diverted from the agreed route, turned violent, dispossessed the victims of their valuables, and forced them out of the vehicle.
After discovering that her iPhone 12 Pro had been stolen, one of the victims raised an alarm, prompting a swift response from detectives of the Obantoko Division. Working in collaboration with vigilant residents, the police arrested two suspects identified as Odunuga Kehinde and Olajide Rasak, while the vehicle used in the operation escaped. Police intervention also prevented angry residents from carrying out mob action against the suspects.
During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to the crime, while officers recovered the stolen iPhone 12 Pro and other suspected stolen phones from their possession.
The recovered iPhone has since been released to its owner on bond, while the suspects remain in custody pending the conclusion of investigations and prosecution.
Commending the officers and members of the public for their prompt action, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, praised the synergy that led to the arrests and recovery of stolen property.
