Troops of the 8 Division Garrison, Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled an attempted attack by suspected terrorists in Zamfara State, recovering weapons, motorcycles and other items during the operation.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the troops, acting on credible intelligence, intercepted the suspected terrorists who were reportedly moving towards Kwanar Jollof in Jangeru Village, located in Shinkafi Local Government Area.
According to the sources, the troops strategically positioned themselves along the suspected route and laid an ambush for the assailants.
\u201cUpon sighting the terrorists, the troops engaged them with a heavy volume of fire, forcing them to abandon their mission and flee into the surrounding area,\u201d a security source disclosed.
Items recovered from the scene included one PKT assault weapon, ammunition, two motorcycles, chains suspected to have been intended for abducted victims, and eight pairs of military uniforms.
Security sources said the recovery of military uniforms raised concerns that the suspected terrorists may have planned to disguise themselves during the operation.
\u201cThe successful operation disrupted the terrorists\u2019 plans to attack the area and further demonstrates the effectiveness of intelligence-led military operations,\u201d another source said.
The sources added that troops have continued exploitation operations in the area to track down the fleeing suspects and forestall further threats to residents.
