The Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, has asked the Nigeria Police Force to intensify protection of the country\u2019s power infrastructure, he told the Inspector\u2011General of Police, Tunji Disu, during a courtesy visit to the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday.
Tegbe, who was accompanied by the Ministry\u2019s permanent secretary and other management officials, said the vandalisation of power assets remained a \u201cmajor threat\u201d to the sector. He said the visit was aimed at \u201cseeking enhanced cooperation of the Nigeria Police Force in safeguarding the nation\u2019s power infrastructure.\u201d
He praised the Force\u2019s performance under IGP Disu and urged \u201cintensified surveillance of critical installations\u201d and \u201csustained collaboration between the Ministry and the Police\u201d to protect power facilities.
IGP Disu said the police were committed to protecting critical national infrastructure, including power assets, and to prosecuting vandals and other perpetrators of power\u2011sector crimes.
Disu said he was willing to work with the Ministry to establish \u201ca Task Force on the protection of power infrastructure\u201d and assured the minister of the Force\u2019s \u201cfull cooperation and protection,\u201d noting the \u201ccritical and attack\u2011prone nature of power sector assets and personnel.\u201d
