Operatives of the Sagamu Division of the Ogun State Police Command have dismantled a suspected cattle theft syndicate and recovered six stolen cows in Maskoli area of the local government.
The operation also led to the arrest of two suspects identified as Abiodun Kamilu, 35, and Adesanya Segun, 37.
Confirming the arrest on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the operatives alsoseized a blue Nissan Cabster bus believed to have served as the syndicate\u2019s operational vehicle.
Babaseyi noted that the breakthrough followed a distress call received on Saturday, reporting that suspected cattle thieves invaded a cow yard in the Maskoli Area of Sagamu and stole seven cows.
Upon the report, the spokesperson stated that operatives were immediately mobilised and coordinated patrols around identified exit routes was commenced.
\u201cActing on credible information, the operatives intercepted suspicious vehicles along the Sagamu\u2013Ijebu-Ode Expressway.
\u201cTheir swift intervention frustrated the criminal operation, leading to the arrest of the two suspects and the recovery of six of the seven stolen cows, as well as the operational vehicle abandoned during the failed escape,\u201d Babaseyi added.
He assured that investigation was ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate, recover the remaining stolen cow, and ensure the prosecution of all those connected with the crime.
