…Commends officers’ recommendations on internal security and policing beyond 2035<\/strong><\/p>\n

Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has described a National Defence College (NDC) research on police reform and state policing as a timely contribution to Nigeria’s evolving security architecture, saying its findings could help shape future policing strategies across the country.<\/p>\n

The IGP made the remarks on Tuesday while receiving the Commandant, management, directing staff, participants and support staff of the National Defence College during a courtesy visit to the Force Headquarters in Abuja.<\/p>\n

Discussions during the visit focused on police reform, state policing, command and coordination protocols, and other emerging internal security challenges facing the country.<\/p>\n

The delegation was led by the Commandant of the National Defence College, Rear Admiral A. Ahmed, and included the Deputy Commandant and Director of Studies, Major General K. E. Chigbu; College Secretary, Air Vice Marshal E. Owai; Provost of the Centre for Strategic Research and Studies, Prof. A. O. Ahmad; Brigadier General G. Oyinlola; Brigadier General J. M. Chima; Commodore A. N. Umaru; Colonel M. Haribu; Colonel T. O. Samson; Colonel M. I. Ajibike; Colonel A. A. Abdulhalim; as well as police participants, including CP S. A. Afunluhi, DCP S. Yahaya, DCP O. O. Yusuf and DCP I. B. Usang.<\/p>\n

Presenting the study, Rear Admiral Ahmed said the research paper was produced entirely by police officers participating in the College’s programme, while faculty members provided academic supervision and methodological guidance.<\/p>\n

According to him, the participants drew on their professional experience, critical thinking and research to develop practical, innovative and implementable policy options capable of strengthening policing in Nigeria.<\/p>\n

He expressed confidence that the study’s findings and recommendations would contribute meaningfully to ongoing national conversations on police reform while enhancing the Nigeria Police Force’s capacity to address contemporary and emerging internal security challenges through 2035.<\/p>\n

Responding, IGP Disu commended the officers for producing what he described as a well-researched and practical study, noting that its quality, depth of analysis and evidence-based recommendations made it a valuable resource for policing reforms.<\/p>\n

He observed that the research provides a solid foundation for discussions on state policing, particularly through its examination of public concerns, comparative analysis of countries operating state police systems and practical recommendations for implementation.<\/p>\n

The Inspector-General reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with the National Defence College and other strategic institutions to support reforms, improve internal security and enhance professional policing across the country.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
