A public affairs writer, Collins Iwuoha, has highlighted what he described as the reform-driven leadership of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, saying the police chief has prioritised professionalism, accountability and community partnership since assuming office.
In an article titled \u201cThe Disu Effect: Repositioning the Nigeria Police Force Through Reform, Professionalism and Community Partnership,\u201d Iwuoha argued that Disu\u2019s leadership has focused on repositioning the Nigeria Police Force into a more accountable, professional and community-oriented institution.
According to the writer, the IGP has adopted a policing philosophy that places citizens at the centre of security by promoting collaboration, transparency and shared responsibility between the police and the public.
He said Disu has consistently maintained that effective policing requires active community participation, adding that the police chief\u2019s message that \u201csecurity is everyone\u2019s business\u201d reflects an effort to strengthen public trust and encourage citizens to contribute to improving security.
Iwuoha also pointed to the Inspector-General\u2019s support for community policing and the decentralisation of law enforcement through the proposed establishment of state police.
According to him, Disu believes officers with knowledge of local languages, culture and security dynamics would be better positioned to prevent crime and respond more effectively to emerging threats.
