{"id":8475,"date":"2026-08-22T12:09:39","date_gmt":"2026-08-22T12:09:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.securityfocus.ng\/?p=8475"},"modified":"2026-08-22T12:09:39","modified_gmt":"2026-08-22T12:09:39","slug":"igp-disu-recalls-father-who-asked-police-to-kill-his-son-over-cultism","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.securityfocus.ng\/index.php\/2026\/08\/22\/igp-disu-recalls-father-who-asked-police-to-kill-his-son-over-cultism\/","title":{"rendered":"IGP Disu Recalls Father Who Asked Police To Kill His Son Over Cultism"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span data-subtree=\"aimfl,mfl\" data-copy-service-computed-style=\"font-family: &quot;Google Sans&quot;, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 400; margin: 0px; text-decoration: none solid rgb(10, 10, 10); border-bottom: 0px none rgb(10, 10, 10);\">Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu has recounted an encounter with a retired soldier who angrily demanded police execute his son for cultism arrest, only to return the next morning with food<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Disu stated that the episode, which occurred while he was a Divisional Police Officer in Ago Iwoye, Ogun State, demonstrated a parent\u2019s conflicted feelings and the need for families to take responsibility for their children\u2019s development and discipline.<\/p>\n<p>The IGP addressed the Nigeria Police Force\u2019s National Youth Leadership and Security Dialog, held at the Police Resource Center in Jabi, Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>The three-day dialog, held from Thursday to Saturday to mark the National Youth Leadership and Security Dialogue 2026, focused on young leadership, security, responsibility, and the need to deter violence and thuggery.<\/p>\n<p>Disu narrated the incident, stating that the former soldier rushed his office after his son, a university student, was arrested for cultism and ordered that the police shoot him.<\/p>\n<p>He claimed that the man inquired about his son\u2019s whereabouts and, when informed that he was held, replied that it was fine before making the unexpected demand.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd he said, DPO, where is the boy? I said, he\u2019s detained. He said, very good. I want you to help me to kill him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKill him! That was what he said. That you must kill him. He doesn\u2019t want him at home,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>According to the IGP, the guy stayed in his office from dawn to virtually night, insisting that the police execute his son.<\/p>\n<p>He stated he eventually urged the former soldier to return home, telling him the police would assist him in dealing with the son.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd he left. The following morning, very early in the morning, he started calling me. He has brought food for his son. He brought food for his son,\u201d Disu said.<\/p>\n<p>The IGP stated that he intentionally delayed responding to the man until the afternoon, after the former soldier became angry and repeatedly called to request a meeting.<\/p>\n<p>He finally let him into his office, where he explained that he had brought food for his incarcerated son.<\/p>\n<p>Recounting his reaction, Disu stated, \u201cWhat if I\u2019ve killed this boy since yesterday?
