The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has approved a petition by the family of late singer, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, seeking a fresh and comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.<\/p>\n
The family disclosed this through its lawyer, Oladayo Ogungbe, in a statement dated September 29, 2026, clarifying that the police re-investigation was ongoing despite the recent dismissal of a suit by the Federal High Court, Abuja.<\/p>\n
According to Ogungbe, the Aloba family submitted the petition to the IGP on April 14, 2026, and it was received at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, on May 7.<\/p>\n
The petition, he said, raised concerns over inconsistencies in the previous investigative process and called for a comprehensive forensic reconstruction of the circumstances surrounding Mohbad\u2019s death.<\/p>\n
The lawyer said the petition was subsequently approved by the IGP and forwarded to the Lagos State Police Command for immediate action.<\/p>\n
He added that the family was later informed that the petition had been assigned to officers of the Special Enquiry Bureau for further investigation.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe family\u2019s representative has since been invited and has engaged with the new team of investigators assigned to the matter.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe family has continued to follow up with the investigators and remained engaged with the new investigative process,\u201d Ogungbe stated.<\/p>\n
The clarification followed the dismissal, on September 25, 2026, of Suit No. FHC\/ABJ\/CS\/363\/2026 by the Federal High Court, Abuja.<\/p>\n
Ogungbe stressed that the suit was separate from the family\u2019s petition to the police and was neither instituted by the Aloba family nor with its authority or consent.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Aloba Family therefore does not wish the public to conflate the dismissal of that suit with the separate investigative process already commenced pursuant to the Family\u2019s petition to the Inspector-General of Police,\u201d the statement noted.<\/p>\n
The family maintained that the court\u2019s dismissal of the suit did not terminate the police investigation initiated through its petition.<\/p>\n
It said it would continue to cooperate with investigators by providing relevant information, documents, witnesses and other materials that could assist the probe.<\/p>\n
The family also urged the police to conduct the investigation with diligence, independence and professionalism while examining all relevant persons and circumstances.<\/p>\n
The lawyers said the family was not seeking to prejudge the outcome of the investigation or engage in \u201ctrial by media\u201d, but wanted a credible, comprehensive and transparent process capable of establishing the facts surrounding Mohbad\u2019s death.<\/p>\n
