Police Apprehend 22 Suspected Criminals In Kwara

Adekimi Ojo, Police Commissioner for Kwara State, on Friday, warned criminals involved in kidnapping, armed robbery and illegal arms trade to vacate the state or face dire consequences.

“Kwara State is hostile to your operations and we will not relent until every inch of the state is secure for the citizens,” he declared at a press briefing on recent operational breakthroughs recorded by the command held at the police command’s headquarters in Ilorin, the state capital.

Ojo announced the arrest of at least 22 suspected criminals by the command for alleged various crimes, including unlawful possession of firearms, conspiracy to commit kidnapping, culpable homicide and armed robbery committed in the state.


Among the suspects are Saheed Jimoh Adekeja, arrested for unlawful possession of firearm and recovery of substances suspected to be Cannabis, and Olamide (Alias ‘Bold’) who was allegedly found with a locally made firearm.

Others arrested for alleged conspiracy to commit kidnapping include, Idrisu Sariki, said to be a leader of a kidnapping syndicate, Aisha Haruwa, Rabi Umaru and Fatimoh Abubakar, all females allegedly connected with aiding and abetting kidnapping and illegal firearms.

Two others allegedly arrested in connection with conspiracy to commit kidnapping, Suleiman Jamiu and Mumini Mohammed, according to the police commissioner, were found with N11m suspected to be proceeds of crime.

Ten suspects also being held in connection with alleged kidnapping include Mohamed Olaiya, Mohammed Dende, Somo Gida, Umar Mohammed, Aliyu Usman, Sidi Sagari, Jemo Isah, Shehu Ibrahim, Lawal Usman and Buba Lawal, who was found with one AK-47 rifle magazine loaded with eight rounds of live ammunition.

Ojo further disclosed that three suspects, Adamu Nuhu, Dauda Amuda and Dare Alabi, were identified as members of a robbery syndicate targeting students’ hostels of the Kwara State University, Malete.

The police commissioner commended all tactical teams, investigative units, divisional formations, vigilantes, local hunters and collaborating security agencies whose professionalism and dedication to duty continued to make the victories recorded possible.
