Niger: Police arrest suspected thugs, gang leader wanted for culpable homicide

The Niger State Police Command has arrested five suspected thugs, including a notorious gang leader, Jamilu Abdullahi, who was on the wanted list for culpable homicide, in two separate operations in Minna, the state capital.

Abdullahi is said to be associated with other notorious figures such as Musa Kaura, Kaule, and Gaiye, who have been terrorising the neighbourhoods of Anguwan-Daji, Limawa, New Market, and Maitunbi, all suburbs of Minna.

According to the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, on August 2, 2025, a 19-year-old suspect, Jamilu Abdullahi (aka Zabo), was arrested in a raid around Stadium Road, Minna.

He explained that Abdullahi was found with a pointed sharp iron used for stabbing and robbing victims.

The PRO disclosed that Abdullahi was reportedly a gang leader and had been on the police’s wanted list for suspected culpable homicide.

Abiodun also revealed that in a follow-up operation on August 6, 2025, the Anti-Thuggery Unit arrested four additional suspects in the Barkin-Sale area of Minna.

The command further explained that the suspects were found with dangerous weapons, including three sharp knives, scissors, and suspected cannabis.

All suspects are currently under investigation and will face prosecution once the investigation is completed.

The statement added, “The police are encouraging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities as efforts intensify to ensure the safety and security of Minna communities.”
