The Nigeria Police Force has recorded two major breakthroughs in the fight against human trafficking and kidnapping, rescuing two victims, arresting three suspects, and recovering firearms in separate operations.
On 30 July 2025, operatives of the Enugu State Police Command, on routine patrol along the Enugu–Onitsha Expressway, intercepted a suspected human trafficker, Raymond Sunday Wonna, 30, and rescued two young women — 18-year-old Miracle Ogar and 16-year-old Angela Kingsley.
Investigations revealed the victims were lured from Ogoja, Cross River State, under the guise of securing jobs in Ghana.
Police said the suspect planned to transport them to work in a restaurant allegedly owned by his partner.
He allegedly lodged them in a hotel pending departure and attempted to sexually assault them before operatives intervened.
The victims have since been reunited with their families, while efforts are underway to track other members of the network.
In a separate operation on 13 August, Taraba State Police Command operatives, acting on intelligence and aided by local security groups, stormed Mahadi Forest in Gassol Local Government Area. They arrested two suspected kidnappers — Yahaya Umar, 20, and Mohammed Umar, 47 — and recovered an AK-47 rifle.
The suspects reportedly confessed to being members of a syndicate linked to several attacks in Plateau and Taraba States.
Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun commended the operatives for their swift action and assured that all suspects would face prosecution.
He urged continued public vigilance and pledged the Force’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks across the country.
