Borno: Military crushes terrorist ambush on Gubio–Damasak road, 13 killed

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have foiled an ambush by Boko Haram and Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters along the Gubio–Damasak road in Borno State, killing 13 terrorists.

The attack happened on Wednesday near Kareto in Mobbar Local Government Area while soldiers were escorting humanitarian supplies to Damasak.

This was shared on X by security analyst Zagazola Makama on Thursday.

According to Makama, the insurgents began the ambush by detonating two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) before opening fire on the convoy.

“The troops quickly took battle positions and responded with superior firepower that overpowered the terrorists.

“Thirteen of them were neutralised on the spot, while others fled in disarray,” Makama wrote.

The soldiers pursued the fleeing fighters and recovered eight AK-47 rifles, ten magazines, several rolls of detonating cord, multiple primed IEDs, and a large cache of 7.62mm ammunition.

Although the convoy sustained some damage, with four armoured vehicle tyres destroyed and two trucks set ablaze, only one soldier was injured and is in stable condition.

“The escort mission was successfully completed, and the relief materials were delivered to Damasak,” Makama added.
