Police Rescue 3 Children from Abduction Attempt in Nasarawa

The Nasarawa State Police Command has prevented a case of child trafficking in Mararaba after quickly responding to a distress call that led to the arrest of a suspect and the rescue of three children.

Police spokesperson, SP Ramhan Nansel, confirmed the incident in a statement on Friday.

According to him, the incident happened on September 4, 2025, around 5:45 p.m., when a 22-year-old woman, Aisha Hashiru, was caught by residents at Orange Market, Mararaba, while trying to abduct three children.

“She was about to be lynched when the Divisional Police Officer of Mararaba ‘A’ Division, acting promptly on the report, mobilized his patrol team to the scene, rescued both the suspect and the children, and moved them to the station for safety,” Nansel said.

Preliminary investigation showed that the suspect had earlier sneaked into the home of one Ramatu Auwal at Orange Market around 5:00 p.m. and abducted her three children: Fatima Auwal, 4 years old, Shafiyi Auwal, 5 years old and Amina Auwal, 6 years old.

The police added that Aisha confessed to luring the children by promising to buy them biscuits before she was intercepted by vigilant residents.

The Commissioner of Police has now directed that the case be handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Lafia for a thorough investigation.

He also urged officers to step up efforts in addressing other reports of missing children and to continue the fight against human trafficking in the state.

“The Command appreciates the vigilance of residents and assures the public of its unwavering commitment to protecting lives and ensuring the safety of children across Nasarawa State,” the statement concluded.
