Officers attached to the Inspector General of Police, IGP Special Interventions Squad, SIS, Abuja have been reportedly attacked in Okigwe, Imo State.
According to reports, the officers were attacked by gunmen suspected to be members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB and it’s security wing, Eastern Security Network, ESN.
The report quoted a police wireless message, which indicates that the incident occurred at about 9:00 am on Sunday at MRS Fuel Station, Abor Umulolo, Okigwe, Imo State.
The gunmen reportedly opened fire on the officers, injuring at least three. They were immediately rushed to the hospital where one Inspector Umaru Mohammed was confirmed dead.
Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu is expected to visit the South Eastern state on Tuesday to commission some projects completed by Governor Hope Uzodimma’s administration in the state.
