Police in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of Bauchi State have arrested a man suspected to be involved in the death of popular Sayawa musician, John Zuya, whose songs had gained him a strong following both within and outside his community.
Zuya, who recently returned from a successful performance in Lagos where he reportedly made a substantial amount of money, died under mysterious circumstances shortly after his return a development that shocked his fans and community members.
Days after his death, Yakubu Alhamdu, the Deputy Chairman of the Sayawa Youth Development Association (ZAYODA), Tafawa Balewa branch, alleged in a Facebook video that Zuya was killed by his close friend, Emmanuel Wakili, who is also a Sayawa artist.
According to Alhamdu, Wakili allegedly confessed to killing Zuya out of jealousy, claiming he had “captured his soul” and struck him on the head, which may have caused the bleeding seen on Zuya’s forehead.
The incident has plunged the Sayawa community into mourning, with many demanding a thorough investigation and justice for the late singer.
Police have since arrested Wakili, and investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause and motive behind Zuya’s death.
