Lagos Police Arrest Ex-convict, Two Others For Theft, Pickpocketing, Recover Exhibits

Lagos State Police Command has arrested a recently released ex-convict and two suspected pickpockets for various theft-related offences across different parts of the state.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, RRS, apprehended 25-year-old ex-convict, Segun Kolawole, just five days after his release from the Kirikiri Correctional Centre, alongside Sodiq Isa and Adekanmbi Ganiu.

According to the statement, Kolawole was arrested around 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at Oshodi Market after RRS operatives noticed his suspicious movements.

Upon search, he was found in possession of N80,000 and an Infinix Note 40 Pro smartphone, both traced to a burglary incident at Opebi, where he allegedly stole N200,000 and the phone from a sleeping trader.

Investigations also revealed that the ex-convict had already used part of the stolen money to purchase new clothes and shoes, which were also recovered from him.

In a separate operation conducted around 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 24, 2025, RRS operatives arrested Sodiq Isa and Adekanmbi Ganiu while attempting to steal mobile phones from unsuspecting commuters at different locations in Lagos.

Preliminary findings indicated that the suspects specialise in snatching phones and wallets during peak hours, particularly in crowded traffic areas or when victims are boarding commercial vehicles.

Their swift arrest prevented further thefts, and all recovered exhibits have been returned to their rightful owners.

The statement confirmed that all three suspects are in lawful custody at the RRS Headquarters, where they are undergoing further investigation.

Upon conclusion of the investigation, they will be charged to court for prosecution in line with existing laws.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Moshood Jimoh, commended the RRS operatives for their professionalism, vigilance, and timely intervention, reiterating the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing, proactive crime prevention, and sustained operations aimed at ensuring the safety of residents.
