Woman Stages Own Kidnap To Extort 5 Million Naira From Her Husband -Police

Edo State Police Command has arrested one Chioma Success Adaniken for allegedly kidnapping herself and receiving about N5 million from her husband.

ASP Eno Ikoedem, Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, DPPRO explained in a statement on Monday night that the arrest followed a report at the New Etete Division, Benin City by one Paul Adaniken, suspect’s husband.

He said on 27th October, 2025, Adaniken reported at New Etete Police Division that he left his wife, Chioma Success Ezebie and their 3-year-old son, Andrea Ojiezelabor at home before going to his shop.

Later that day, Adaniken said he received a phone call from an unknown person, who informed him that his wife and son had been kidnapped.

The abductors demanded a ransom of five million naira for their release.

The police said upon receipt of the complaint, detectives from New Etete Division immediately swung into action by engaging in covert and overt investigations.

The DPPRO said the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit also launched a “full-scale cyber analysis and the intelligence-led operations that yielded a major breakthrough revealing startling details: the victim’s cousin, Osita Godfrey who was earlier believed to be assisting with information, was arrested and found to be complicit in the crime.

“His confessional statement led to the arrest of the supposed victim, Chioma Success Adaniken who conspired with her accomplices to stage her own abduction in order to extort money from her husband.

“Another suspect, Martins Chidozie ‘m’, aged 23, was also arrested in connection with the crime. All suspects have made useful confessional statements, ransom of Five Million Naira (N5,000,000) recovered and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and onward prosecution.

“The Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command CP Monday Agbonika, fdc, has commended the officers of the New Etete Division for their swift and tactical response, which led to the unraveling of this deceitful act.

“He also warns residents to desist from acts capable of undermining public peace while emphasizing that the Command will continue to deploy intelligence and technology-driven strategies to combat crime in all forms”.
