Troops Repel Boko Haram Attack In Borno, Kill Six Insurgents

Troops of operation Hadin Kai have repelled a major attack by Boko Haram terrorists on the Forward Operating Base (FOB) at Kangar, in the Mallam Fatori area of Borno State, killing six insurgents and recovering several weapons, including armed drones.

The Media information officer, joint task force North-East operation hadin kai, Lt. Col. Uba Sanni, confirmed the development in a statement on Tuesday.

He said the attack, which occurred around 4:30 a.m., was launched by Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters using armed drones and mortar fire aimed at the base’s defensive positions.

According to him, the troops, reinforced by additional forces under Sector 3, displayed “exceptional gallantry and tactical superiority” to repel the terrorists after a fierce gun battle that lasted several hours.

“Despite the heavy drone and indirect fire, the troops held their ground and engaged the attackers decisively,” Sanni said. “They were supported by close air support from Nigerien Fighter Ground Attack platforms, which helped overwhelm the insurgents.”

He added that the terrorists retreated in disarray into the Tumbun waterways, evacuating several of their casualties.

Items recovered from the scene included five AK-47 rifles, eight magazines, 258 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, five RPG bombs, four armed drone bombs, five hand grenades, two bandoliers, and an Android phone.

A post-operation airstrike conducted by the Nigerian Air Force, in collaboration with its Nigerien counterpart, reportedly neutralised additional fleeing terrorists.

Lt. Col. Sanni also disclosed that a few soldiers and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) sustained minor injuries during the operation but were promptly evacuated for medical attention and are in stable condition.
