IED explosion kills four children, injures one in Borno

An explosive device has killed four children and injured one other behind the Banki motor park in Wajari ward of Bama Local Government Area of Borno state.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by the Borno state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso.

According to the statement, the children had entered a makeshift shelter behind the motor park where they were playing with the explosive device, suspected to have been picked up from nearby bushes, without knowing it was live.

The statement added that 12-year-old Mustapha Tijja sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment at the FHI 360 Hospital in Banki.

Those who lost their lives were identified as Awana Mustapha (15), Malum Modu (14), Lawan Ibrahim (12), and Modu Abacha (12).

The police confirmed that normalcy has been restored in the area and that investigation into the incident is ongoing.
