The Borno State Police Command has confirmed that a suspect linked to the alleged rape of a five-year-old pupil in the Low Cost area of Maiduguri has voluntarily surrendered to the police

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, the suspect, Abdulsalam M. Adakwaki, who was earlier declared wanted, has voluntarily surfaced and presented himself to the Police.

The statement added that the suspect is currently under custody and undergoing investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).

Daso assured that the process is being carried out with utmost professionalism, diligence and sensitivity, in line with established procedures.

According to the statement, the process remains open to appropriate oversight and monitoring by relevant civil society organisations, non-governmental organisations, and the National Human Rights Commission.

Daso also cautioned the public against spreading false or unverified information, especially on social media.

He warned against sharing images or personal details of both the victim and the suspect, noting that such actions amount to trial by media, which may prejudice ongoing investigations and judicial processes.
