Outrage As Soldier Kills Teenager In Akwa Ibom

A soldier, attached to Sterling Petrochemical and Fertilizer LTD, Ikot Abasi Akwa Ibom State has allegedly been shot by a thirteen-year old boy identified as Timothy Daniel for challenging him over sexual harassment against his sister, Miracle Daniel, 15, while they were returning from Crossover night service at the Mount Zion Full Gospel Church, Akongntekong road, Ete, Ikot Abasi.

A member of the community who was said to have witnessed the incident told newsmen that the incident happened at about 12:05 am, January 1st, 2026 when the siblings and others were coming back from service.

The witness, Anthony Akpan, said the girl crossed over to the road to urinate and the brother waited for her, then the soldier who was guiding the residence of a former clan head, late HRH, Clement Idemudo, where Chinese expatriates live, followed her and made advances on her. The Church shares the same fence with the residence.

He said the little girl snubbed the soldier who felt belittled and spanked her buttocks. The girl in turn hurled abuse on the soldier while the younger brother, who saw everything that transpired joined his sister to insult the soldier.

Irked by the boy’s insults, the soldier, according to him, allegedly opened fire on him and he died immediately with his brain splattered on the ground, which caused pandemonium in the area.

The witness added, “When the soldier rained the magazine on the boy, he died immediately in the pool of his blood and the soldier ran inside the compound and later his colleagues came out and dragged the body inside”

He said the pandemonium that erupted, spoilt the new year celebration, even the BMW car, belonging to a former Adviser to Ikot Abasi Chairman on Political Matters, Obong Uyai Udoiwod, who drove into the scene, was damaged in the crisis.

Reacting to the situation, Mboho Ukpum Ete, through the Publicity Secretary, Patrick Udoma, in a release, described the incidence as an act of terrorism.

”The President General of Mboho Ukpum Ete expresses dissatisfaction on the unprofessional manner the army personnel of Sterling Petrochemical unleashed mayhem on the citizens of Ukpum Ete in the murder of her citizen in the early hours of January 1st, 2026, throwing the family and the clan into mourning. This act is perceived as terrorism and unaccepted by the people of the Ukpum Ete clan.

“We want justice and appropriate punishment meted on the trigger happy soldier.”

Meanwhile, the Army Public Relations Officer, APPRO, 2 Brigade, Mbiokporo, Captain Lawal Bala Mohamed has confirmed the report, saying ”the incidence has been handled by the military police and is already under investigation.
