Police foil armed robbery attempt, recover firearm in Nasarawa

Police operatives in Nasarawa State have thwarted an armed robbery operation in Mararaba, Karu Local Government Area, and recovered a locally fabricated Beretta pistol, the state police command has confirmed.

According to a statement released by the command’s spokesperson, SP Ramhan Nansel, the incident occurred at about 4:20 a.m. on Wednesday after police received a distress call that four suspected armed robbers had attacked a wine shop along Calvary Road, Mararaba.

During the attack, one person reportedly sustained injuries.


According to the police, officers from Mararaba ‘A’ Division responded swiftly to the alert and arrived at the scene while the robbery was still ongoing.

The suspects were forced to flee on sighting operatives, abandoning a firearm in the process.

Reacting to the development, the Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, ordered an intensive manhunt for the fleeing suspects and directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Lafia for further investigation.

“The Commissioner of Police has ordered an intensive manhunt for the fleeing suspects and directed that the case and the recovered exhibit be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Lafia, for thorough investigation,” Nansel said in the statement.

The command also reassured residents of its resolve to tackle criminal activities across the state, urging members of the public to remain vigilant and continue to provide timely information to security agencies.
