Police operatives in Adamawa State have neutralised a suspected kidnapper and recovered an AK-47 rifle following a gun battle with armed men in Toungo Local Government Area.
The development was disclosed in a post shared on X on Monday by security analyst Zagazola Makama.
According to the report, the incident occurred at about 3:30 am on Friday in Tipson Village, when a joint patrol team comprising police officers and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force encountered a group of armed men believed to be kidnappers.
A source cited by Makama said the suspects were asked to surrender but resisted, leading to a shootout with the operatives.
“One of the suspects was neutralised during the exchange of gunfire, while the others managed to flee the scene, possibly after sustaining gunshot injuries,” the source said.
The source added that an AK-47 rifle with breech number 31794, without a magazine, was recovered at the scene of the clash.
The deceased suspect was later identified as Rabiu Alhaji Shehu, who was said to be from Mayo Butali Village, also in Toungo LGA.
Makama further reported that security agencies have begun a manhunt for the fleeing suspects.
The anti-kidnapping unit has been assigned to conduct a discreet investigation, as security operatives step up patrols in the area to curb further criminal activities.
