Kano police recover stolen Toyota Sienna, return vehicle to owner

The Kano State Police Command has recovered a stolen Toyota Sienna vehicle and handed it over to its rightful owner, Mr. Ali Alti, barely two days after it was reported stolen in Maiduguri, Borno State.

The development was disclosed in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, and dated January 25, 2026.

According to the statement, the maroon-coloured Toyota Sienna with registration number RBC-801HM, valued at about ₦20 million, “was stolen on January 5, 2026, from Maiduguri GRA by a security watchman.”

The statement noted that the recovery followed intelligence-led patrol directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun. It added that “police operatives attached to the Hotoro Police Division recovered the vehicle on January 7, 2026, at Hotoro Arewa Quarters in Kano.”

CSP Kiyawa stated that CP Bakori subsequently ordered the release of the vehicle to the owner after all necessary checks.

“The Commissioner of Police directed that the vehicle be handed over to Mr. Ali Alti after due verification of ownership,” the statement said.

The Command further revealed that “four suspects have been arrested and are currently under investigation in connection with the theft, which originated in Maiduguri.”

Advising the public, the Commissioner of Police cautioned residents to be vigilant when engaging domestic staff. “Members of the public are advised to always be cautious of the people they hire for domestic services, particularly security personnel, and to ensure proper background checks are carried out,” the statement quoted CP Bakori as saying.

The Kano State Police Command also commended the officers involved in the operation, describing their actions as professional and timely, while reiterating its commitment to crime prevention and public safety across the state.
