Bauchi: Police kill suspected kidnapper, rescue two

One suspected kidnapper has been neutralised by the Bauchi State Police Command, with another arrested and two kidnapped victims rescued.

The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, had directed all Divisional Police Headquarters to embark on aggressive operations within their respective jurisdictions, leading to the development.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Nafiu Habib, said in a statement on Wednesday that on January 27, 2026, at about 6:30 am, information from a good Samaritan indicated that one Abdulhamid Mohammed of Tudun Sullubawa, Bara Village, Kirfi Local Government Area, had been kidnapped at about 3:30 am by unidentified suspects.

According to the PPRO, “a high-powered team of operatives, in conjunction with local quasi-security outfits, tracked down the victim at the suspects’ hideout and engaged them in a gun battle.”

He said superior police firepower forced the kidnappers to flee in different directions, adding that one suspect was killed, and another arrested, while others escaped to an unknown location.

He further explained that two captives were rescued unharmed and taken to hospital for medical examination.

During interrogation, Habib said the arrested suspected kidnapping kingpin was identified as Abdulkadir Adamu, 60, a resident of Garin Barde, Bara Village, Kirfi LGA.

He added that exhibits recovered from the scene included one locally fabricated revolver, one locally fabricated submachine gun, one live round of ammunition, three live cartridges, one spent cartridge, one backpack, two keypad mobile phones, a blindfold scarf and a water container.

According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police has ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department to conduct a thorough investigation, profile the suspects and charge them to court for prosecution.

In a related development, Habib said that on January 26, 2026, at about 10:00 hours, a patrol team attached to Kirfi Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer, SP Hassan Saidu, while on routine patrol along the Bauchi–Gombe Federal Highway, received credible information from motorists that the road had been blocked by unknown miscreants.

Following the report, the team immediately moved to the scene near Kalajanga Hamlet, via Bara Village, Kirfi LGA, Bauchi State.

The police spokesman said the operatives overpowered the suspects and arrested Isiya Nasiru, 20, and Umaru Nasiru, 18.

He said the suspects were found in possession of two sticks, one torchlight, three bags, one local charm, one bulletproof shirt, one face mask, two pairs of shoes, three sets of clothes, one Oppo Android phone and other local charms.
