Police Arrest Two Suspected Gunrunners, Recover Weapons In Katsina

Katsina State Police Command has arrested two suspected gunrunners and recovered six AK-47 magazines and 305 rounds of live 7.62mm ammunition.

The command’s spokesperson, Abubakar Sadiq, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday.

According to him, the suspects were apprehended on January 27, 2026, at about 2:00 p.m. during an intelligence-led stop-and-search operation along the Zaria–Funtua Road.

He said the suspects were intercepted while riding a motorcycle, adding that a search conducted on them led to the recovery of the ammunition concealed in their possession.

“Upon an immediate search, six AK-47 magazines and 305 rounds of live 7.62mm ammunition, neatly concealed, were recovered from their possession,” Sadiq stated.

He explained that preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly collected the arms and ammunition from Jos, Plateau State, and were transporting them to a suspected armed bandit kingpin.

Sadiq said the suspects and the recovered exhibits were currently in police custody, while investigations had commenced to unravel the network behind the arms trafficking.

“The suspects will be charged to court after the conclusion of the investigation,” he added.

The arrest, according to the police, followed directives by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, on intensified policing to strengthen security, particularly along major highways.

Commending the operatives, the Commissioner of Police in Katsina State, Bello Shehu, urged members of the public to support the police with timely and credible information to enhance the fight against crime.
