Police Apprehend Teenager For Murder, Drug Abuse In Osun

The Osun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of an 18-year-old suspect in connection with the death of a youth in Idoka community, following an incident linked to alleged drug abuse and violent confrontation.

Police in a statement by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Gotan and issued by the Spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi on Friday, identified the suspect as Isaac Lucky, who was taken into custody after residents reported repeated disturbances and criminal activities attributed to him within Idoka and neighbouring areas of the state.

According to the police, complaints from community members indicated that the teenager was frequently involved in unlawful acts, which were allegedly influenced by the regular use of illicit substances, including kolos, loud and tramadol.

The fatal incident was said to have occurred on December 19, 2025, after the suspect was accused of committing another offence in the community, prompting local youths, including the deceased, to pursue him.

The Police disclosed that the chase led to a pond within Idoka community, where the confrontation reportedly escalated, resulting in the victim being restrained and strangled.

Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, said the suspect was arrested after investigations linked him directly to the incident.

“Following a thorough investigation, the suspect was charged to court and subsequently remanded at a correctional centre,” Ojelabi stated.

The police spokesperson explained that the command acted promptly after receiving credible information from residents, stressing that community cooperation played a key role in the arrest.

DSP Ojelabi also cautioned young people against drug abuse, warning that substance misuse often contributes to violent crime and long-term consequences.

“Drug abuse destroys the health and future of individuals, and intoxication is not a defence to crime,” he said.

The Osun State Police Command also reiterated its commitment to maintaining public safety across the state, urging residents to continue reporting suspicious activities to security agencies.
