Troops kill bandit commander Shangel, others in Niger

The Nigerian Army troops have successfully neutralised bandit commander Kachalla Dan Gudale Shangel operating in Niger State alongside several other key members of the group.

This was revealed by security expert Bakatsine in a post on his X handle which described Shangel as a notorious leader who rejected all attempts to reach a peace agreement.

“He rejected peace talks and masterminded attacks across Birnin Gwari, Niger North, and border LGAs in Kebbi State (Danko/Wasagu, Sakaba, Ngaski, Yauri). He was linked to mass killings, village burnings, kidnappings and cattle rustling.” Bakatsine wrote.

He further revealed that several other commanders were neutralized during clashes in Lioji and Mailaka (Kotonkoro) “bandits attempted to move hostages toward Zamfara and Birnin Gwari. Locals report surviving bandits fleeing Sangeko–Kabaro axis while mourning their dead, an indication of heavy losses.”

The security expert applauded the troops for their dedication to eradicate banditry in the country.

“kudos to the Nigerian troops for this decisive operation. Your courage, persistence and sacrifice in confronting violent armed groups under difficult conditions continue to bring relief to affected communities.”
