Police Kill 7 Bandits In Gun Battle As 2 Soldiers, Vigilante Pay Supreme Price In Bauchi

Officers of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU) of the Bauchi State Police Command have neutralised seven suspected bandits during a gun battle in Gwana District, Alkaleri local government area of Bauchi State.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a press statement issued on Monday. He explained that the Command received reports of a bandit attack on the Gwana community and the Joint Task Force (JTF) base in the district on February 22, 2026.

According to him, security operatives swiftly responded to the distress call, leading to a gun duel with the attackers. During the exchange, seven bandits were neutralised.

However, two soldiers attached to the 33 Artillery Brigade, Bauchi, and a local vigilante lost their lives in the encounter. “Two soldiers attached to 33 Artillery Brigade, Bauchi and a vigilante paid the supreme price during the encounter.”

He added that three residents of the affected community were abducted.

The statement noted that additional security personnel have been deployed to the area to restore normalcy, protect displaced residents, and prevent further attacks.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, assured the public that monitoring and intelligence gathering efforts were ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects and secure the safe rescue of the abducted victims.

“Further updates will be provided as the situation unfolds,” the statement added.
