A young man, identified as Edward Okorie has been apprehended by the police for allegedly beating his girlfriend, Sophy Chika to death during an altercation that occurred in their co-habited apartment in Ohafia, Abia State.
The victim was a nurse from Abam, Arochukwu LGA of Abia State, but was living together with her boyfriend, Edward Okorie, an indigene of Ohafia LGA.
No official reason has been established about what led to the altercation that resulted in the death of the nurse.
However, the Abia State Police Command, through its Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Maureen Chinaka confirmed the incident, saying that the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in Ohafia had briefed her on the matter.
The Abia Police Command spokesperson disclosed that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Umuahia, for a thorough investigation.
DSP Chinaka said that the outcome of the investigation would reveal the circumstances surrounding the incident.
In a related development, the SCID, Umuahia has commenced investigation on the case of an Umuahia woman who stabbed her husband, Mr. Chidiebere James to death with scissors because of messages allegedly found in his phone.
