Police burst inter-state motorcycle theft syndicate, arrest suspect in Yobe

Yobe state Police Command said its operatives acting on credible intelligence have uncovered an inter-state syndicate that specialized in burglary, theft and snatching of motorcycles across parts of Yobe, Gombe and Bauchi States.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday.

According to the statement, the operation led to the arrest of one Lukman Inusa, 27-year-old of Potiskum Local Government Area.


“The suspect was arrested on 3rd March, 2026 at about 1100hrs, following a well-coordinated operation by police operatives.

“During preliminary investigation, the suspect confessed to the crime and led investigators to the recovery of five (5) motorcycles out of about ten (10) motorcycles he allegedly stole since the beginning of his criminal activities”, SP Abdulkarim said.

According to the Police PRO, the recovered motorcycles are currently in police custody, while investigation is ongoing to identify and contact the rightful owners.

“Efforts are also being intensified to recover the remaining stolen motorcycles and arrest other members of the criminal syndicate,” he assured.

The command through the Public Relations Officer reiterated its zero tolerance for criminal activities and remained committed to sustaining ongoing operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks within the state.
