Troops repel ISWAP attack in Konduga as heavy gunfire rocks Borno community

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai on Thursday night engaged suspected fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) following an attempted attack on Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State.

Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the insurgents attempted to infiltrate the area at about 11:15 p.m., prompting a swift response from troops stationed in the axis.

Residents reported hearing sustained gunfire as soldiers confronted the attackers in what witnesses described as a fierce exchange.

“There have been heavy sounds of gunshots as the soldiers engage the terrorists. We are hearing the sounds around Dalori,” a source in the area said.

Konduga, locating about 35 kilometres from Maiduguri, remains one of the key frontline communities in the ongoing counter-insurgency operations against Boko Haram and ISWAP due to its proximity to the Sambisa forest.

As of the time of filing this report, the exchange of gunfire between the troops and the insurgents was still ongoing, with security forces continuing efforts to repel the attackers.
