Police bust goat theft syndicate, arrest three suspects

The Niger State Police Command has arrested three suspects linked to a livestock theft syndicate targeting goats across Niger State, Nasarawa State, and the Federal Capital Territory.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the suspects were intercepted on March 16 by operatives of the Maje Division at Tungan-Shanu following a tip-off.

The suspects include Mohammed Ali (37), Shuaibu Ibrahim (37), and Ilyasu Rabiu.

They were reportedly found in a red Volkswagen Golf vehicle with registration number BWR 350 CL, in possession of a suspected stolen goat.

Abiodun said the suspects confessed during interrogation to belonging to a syndicate that specialised in stealing domestic animals, including goats, rams, and sheep, which they disposed of within and outside the region.

He added that investigations are ongoing to track down other members of the network, while the arrested suspects will be charged in court upon completion of the investigation.
