Troops repel terrorist attack in Zamfara, recover bodies of two villagers

Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, working alongside local vigilantes, have repelled a terrorist attack on Maiwa village in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State, leaving two villagers dead.

The incident was disclosed in a post shared on X on Friday by security analyst, Zagazola Makama.

According to the post, the troops responded to a distress call at about 5:30 pm on March 25 after reports that the village was under attack.

On arrival, the soldiers reportedly met local vigilantes already engaged in a gun battle with the attackers.

“The troops reinforced the vigilantes, forcing the attackers to withdraw into the surrounding bush,” Zagazola noted.

“During subsequent exploitation of the area, the troops discovered that two villagers had been killed during the exchange of fire,” he added.

Following the incident, security forces reportedly maintained a strong presence in the community, with continued patrols aimed at preventing further attacks and restricting the movement of the attackers.
