Police arrest armed robber, recover firearms, stolen items

The Imo State Police Command has arrested an armed robbery suspect, identified as Chigaemezu Aguguom, and recovered stolen items from him.

The suspect, according to the Command’s spokesperson Henry Okoye, was arrested by the operatives of Orji Police Division in synergy with the Anti-Narcotics Unit, following credible information.

‎Okoye stated that the operatives on routine patrol led by the DPO, Orji Division, arrested the suspect, a native of Umuneke, Isiala Mbano LGA of the state, at Bishop’s Court axis near Pacific Hotel, Owerri, with gunshot wounds suspected to be sustained during a failed criminal operation.

He added that ‎during interrogation, the suspect confessed to being a member of a five man armed robbery gang operating within the Bishop’s Court axis.


Okoye further disclosed that the suspect provided useful information aiding efforts to apprehend other fleeing members of the syndicate.

‎Exhibits recovered from him include two locally fabricated firearms with five live cartridges, four smartphones, a wristwatch, and other valuables suspected to have been stolen from victims.

‎Consequently, the suspect and the exhibits have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Owerri, for discreet investigation and possible prosecution.

“‎Following the development, the Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Audu Garba Bosso, assured Imolites of adequate security during the Easter period and urged the public to support the Command by reporting suspicious activities to the nearest police station or via the emergency contact numbers,” the statement added.
