Police arrest 23-year-old over alleged defilement of minor in Ondo

Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old suspect, Emmanuel Usman, over the alleged defilement of a 14-year-old girl in Owo, Ondo State.

The incident was reported on March 29 2026, by the victim, a resident of Ijebu Owo, and is currently being investigated by the Command’s Gender Based Violence Unit.

According to police findings, the suspect allegedly dragged the minor into his employer’s office within the Ijebu Owo area, where he had unlawful sexual intercourse with her without consent.

The Command said the suspect also allegedly threatened the victim to prevent her from disclosing the incident, warning her of consequences if she spoke out.

According to the statement, despite the threat, the victim later reported the matter to the police, prompting immediate action that led to the arrest of the suspect.

Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh said the suspect is currently in custody and assisting with investigation.

“The suspect has made useful statements that are aiding the investigation, and he will be charged to court upon its conclusion,” he said.

The statement further noted that the victim has been taken to the General Hospital, Owo, where she is receiving medical care, while additional support is being arranged to ensure her well-being.

The Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal directed that the case be handled with urgency and sensitivity, assuring that justice would be served.

He also reiterated the Command’s commitment to tackling sexual and gender-based violence, warning that offenders would be prosecuted in line with the law.

The police further urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and educate their children on personal safety, while encouraging members of the public to report suspicious activities to security agencies.
