Police detain driver over fatal crash that killed LASU student

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a driver after a fatal road accident that claimed the life of a student of Lagos State University, LASU, in the Igando area of the state.

The command confirmed the development in a statement shared via its official X handle on Saturday night, adding that an investigation into the incident is currently underway.

According to the police, the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in Igando responded promptly to a distress report and visited the scene of the accident.

Preliminary findings indicated that the victim, a female student identified simply as Azeezat, died from injuries sustained in the crash. Her remains have since been deposited at a mortuary.

The police further disclosed that the driver allegedly involved in the incident has been arrested, while the vehicle has been seized as part of ongoing investigations.

The case has been transferred to the Area Command for further inquiry and necessary legal processes.

The command assured residents that due diligence would be followed and appropriate action taken in line with the law.

It also appealed to members of the public to remain calm as investigations continue.

The tragic incident reportedly occurred at about 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, when the victim was struck by a vehicle in the Igando area.
