The Anambra State Police Command has recorded a significant breakthrough in the investigation into the killing of Bishop Chinedu Clarence James of End-Time Reconciliation Ministries, Asaba, Delta State, with the recovery of the cleric’s stolen Toyota Land Cruiser and the arrest of two suspects linked to the crime.
The development reflects the renewed drive for proactive policing, intelligence-led operations, and strengthened inter-state collaboration being championed by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, who has consistently directed commands nationwide to intensify efforts against violent crimes and criminal syndicates.
Bishop James was reportedly abducted and fatally shot during an attack in Delta State on May 12, 2026. Following the killing, the assailants fled with his Toyota Land Cruiser, prompting a coordinated multi-state investigation by security operatives.
According to the Anambra State Police Command, the breakthrough followed credible intelligence received in the early hours of today indicating that the stolen vehicle was being moved into Anambra State for possible sale.
Acting on the intelligence, the Commander of the Intelligence Response and Rapid Response Unit (IRRT), CSP Orede C. Matthew, led a coordinated operation that tracked the movement of the vehicle and monitored suspected contacts linked to its disposal.
Preliminary investigations revealed that one of the suspects, Uchenna Nicolas, allegedly confessed to becoming involved shortly after the incident. He reportedly disclosed that he contacted his cousin, Uchenna Igwe, based in Onitsha, to help source a buyer for the stolen Toyota Land Cruiser.
Police sources said the communication between both suspects provided a critical lead that enabled operatives to trace and monitor their activities.
Upon confirming that the suspects were actively attempting to sell the vehicle in Onitsha, operatives moved swiftly and intercepted them, leading to the arrest of both suspects and the recovery of the stolen Toyota Land Cruiser.
The Police Public Relations Office of the Anambra State Command confirmed the arrests and recovery, describing the operation as swift, intelligence-driven, and crucial to preserving vital evidence connected to the murder investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, Ikioye Orutugu, commended the operatives for their professionalism, coordination, and prompt response, describing the operation as a major breakthrough in the ongoing investigation.
He assured the public that the command has intensified efforts to apprehend other members of the criminal network believed to be connected to the kidnapping, murder, and attempted disposal of the stolen vehicle.
Police authorities further disclosed that preliminary findings point to the possible involvement of a wider criminal syndicate, adding that investigations are ongoing to establish the full operational network and motives behind the attack.
The command reiterated its commitment to ensuring that all individuals connected to the crime are identified, arrested, and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
