Police arrest armed robbery suspect in Adamawa

Operatives of the Adamawa State Police Command have arrested one suspect in connection with an armed robbery attack on female students of the Adamawa State Polytechnic, Yola.

The robbery occurred in the early hours of May 28, 2026, when armed hoodlums reportedly stormed a residence occupied by the students behind the MOPE Extension in Numan Local Government Area, forcefully taking cash, mobile phones, power banks and other valuables from the students.

The police gave the update on Friday, correcting earlier reports which had placed the scene of the robbery at the female hostel of the Numan Campus of the Adamawa State Polytechnic.

In a statement issued by its spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, the state police command explained that, following a distress call, operatives from the Divisional Police Headquarters in Demsa moved to the scene, conducted preliminary investigations and launched a manhunt for the perpetrators.

The command confirmed that one suspect has so far been arrested, while efforts are ongoing to track down other members of the gang who remain at large.

“The Commissioner of Police has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case to ensure a thorough and discreet investigation,” Nguroje stated.
