Police arrest three suspected cultists over alleged murder of Kwara Poly student

Kwara State Police Command has arrested three suspected members of the Eiye Confraternity over the alleged abduction and murder of a student of Kwara State Polytechnic who was declared missing in June.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Kwara State Police Command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police on July 1, 2026.

According to the statement, the suspects were arrested by operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit,VCRU, following what the command described as a thorough investigation into the disappearance of Sodiq Durodola Olaniyi, a 29year-old indigene of Oyo State.


The police identified the suspects as Adeoye Babatunde Alimi, 23year old also known as “Solar”; Bernard Kayode, 25year old also known as “KK”; and Owoyemi Bashiru, 27year old also known as “GDP.”

The command said the suspects were apprehended on June 29, 2026, during coordinated tactical operations carried out at identified cult hideouts within Ilorin metropolis.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are alleged members of the Eiye Confraternity, which police believe was responsible for the abduction of Olaniyi, who had been missing since June 4, 2026.

The statement added that the suspects allegedly confessed to their respective roles during interrogation and disclosed that the victim was killed after being abducted.

“During interrogation, the suspects confessed to their respective roles in the crime and disclosed that the victim was executed by members of the cult group after his abduction,” the statement read.

The police further disclosed that investigation revealed the criminal gang comprises 12 members, with nine other suspects still at large.

Tactical operations have been intensified to arrest the fleeing suspects, dismantle the criminal network and recover the victim’s body.

The statement added that the suspects currently in custody are assisting investigators with information relating to other violent crimes allegedly committed by the group within Ilorin metropolis.

The command said investigation is ongoing and assured that all suspects found culpable would be prosecuted in accordance with the law upon the conclusion of investigations.
